Briwax has an impeccable heritage which dates back to 1860
when Henry Flack started manufacturing polishes and blending
waxes in East London for cabinetmakers and woodcarvers. His
business was acquired by the Bollom Group (then known as J.
W. Bollom & Co.) in 1961 and since then the brand has gone
from strength to strength in both the consumer and professional
markets.
In early 2007 the Bollom Group was sold to an
investment company but this very positive move was quickly
followed by a disastrous fire at the Briwax production site. Although
the fire was not caused by Briwax or any of its raw materials,
all the manufacturing equipment, components and finished products
were completely destroyed. Despite every possible effort
and help from industry friends, a workable production capacity
could not be reached and existing stocks rapidly dwindled.
The resulting cash flow problems led to the new investors
calling it a day but undeterred, the original Chairman, Martin
Bollom, and his brother Tony bought back the Briwax operation. Under
the name of Briwax International Limited, they have set
up new production facilities and together with a team of experienced,
key people from Bollom things are returning to 'normal'.
“We are now in a position to offer the level of service
you have come to expect from us,” explained Martin Bollom. “Briwax
rose successfully from the ashes of another catastrophic fire
in 1996 and, now the brand is back in Bollom hands, we fully
intend to do it again! A return to family business values
and a total focus on Briwax products rather than a diverse
range, are significant factors in our confidence that this
new operation will be a resounding success.”
“I must also say how grateful we were for the support,
best wishes and patience shown by all our customers both in
the UK and worldwide while we reorganised production,” he
concludes.
In addition to Briwax Original Wax Polish, Briwax
International are offering a comprehensive range of professional
products for both spray and manual application. No wood care
range has higher consumer brand awareness than Briwax and there
is a whole family of products suitable for retailing, including
cleaners and revivers, water stains, filler
sticks and touch-up water dye pens as well as the traditional
waxes.
